White House Backs Plan for Eco-Friendly Villages in Haiti

The sustainable E-Domes are designed to help Haitians survive the hurricane season.

In the wake of the devastation left by the earthquake in Haiti earlier this year, the White House administration is backing sustainable, green initiatives to help rebuild the country.

The move comes following a recent visit to the White House by a Haitian delegation, to celebrate Haitian Independence Day.  Among the efforts being undertaken are E-Domes (eco-friendly domes), shelters designed to withstand hurricanes. The concept is a timely one, as Haiti prepares for the upcoming Hurricane season.

Currently, the International Green Technology Institute of the Tom Bradley Legacy Foundation has plans for 50 E Dome Villages to be distributed throughout the country in the next 18 months to house 100,000 people. In a statement, Erik Peterson, Principle of the Claremont Environmental Design Group, noted that the  “Village in a Box” could be erected in a month, once the site is selected and the proper grading completed.  Project Green Haiti training leader, Rob Srinivus, President of Eco-Hut Academy added in a prepared statement, “Our goal is to develop an eco-entrepreneurial society, therefore, we will train the people to construct the E Villages as well as install the solar energy systems. Our goal is to empower a green generation of Haitians to rebuild their villages where one can live, work, play, learn, shop, and care the environment and each other.”
