Two weeks after causing a major international uproar by not allowing iPads into the country, Israel has now lifted the ban as of today. Initially arguing that the American standard Wi-Fi operation would interfere with Israeli Wi Fi operations, Israel’s Communications Ministry reversed its decision on Saturday.
Israelis and tourists who had their iPads confiscated at customs at Ben Gurion airport will have them returned, but may have to pay storage fees for the period they were impounded.
In a statement released Saturday, the ministry said it had studied the iPad extensively and determined “the device which could be used in different standards will be used in Israel according to local standards.”
