The UK’s biggest celebration of all things organic takes place from September 3rd to 17th, with a variety of events happening over the two weeks.
The Soil Association Organic Food Festival at Bristol Harbourside is sure to be a highlight of the fortnight, with green celebrities including Monty Don and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall getting behind the two-day event.
Monty Don says on the Soil Association website: “The Organic Food Festival is a celebration of all that sustainable food and farming is and can be. I urge you to come along and enjoy the best of organic produce, health and beauty products and textiles – and talk to the people that grew, nurtured or produced them.”
2010 marks the tenth year of the Organic Food Festival, with more exhibitors than ever expected this year. As well as 150 local producers selling all manner of organic food and drink, visitors will be treated to live music from local bands and cookery demonstrations from celebrated chefs. A kids tent and sheep show will provide plenty of amusement for little ones, while a wine bar and health and beauty stalls will keep mums and dads entertained.
The Organic Food Festival is on from 10am on Saturday September 11th to 6pm on Sunday 12th. If you don’t live in the area, make a weekend of it by staying at the Winford Manor Hotel. Situated a 20 minute drive away from Bristol Harbourside, this hotel aims to be the number one choice of eco-conscious tourists in Bristol and the South West.
Green features at the hotel include alternative energy generation systems, rainwater harvesting, recycling and a eco-friendly towel and sheet re-use programme. The hotel has been awarded a Green Tourism Gold Badge by the Green Tourism Business Scheme and invests heavily in staff training to ensure strict environmental standards are upheld. Rooms start from £42.50 per night depending on availability, with stunning views of the countryside from many rooms.
If you’d prefer to stay closer to the action in Bristol city centre, The Greenhouse Bed and Breakfast is an excellent choice. Serving an organic English breakfast every morning, this charming house has been lovingly restored by its interior designer owner – and it shows. Prices start from £50 per night for a single room including breakfast, with free wifi available to all guests.
